What is Social Media and Why Should My Company Care?

On July 22, 2009 the ITRI had a roundtable discussion, facilitated by Brad Lawless, about social media, employees, businesses, and whether there was a healthy balance to be found between work, play, and ROI.

Our board member companies discussed recruitment, marketing, and strategies around IT and how the various social media channels can help them achieve their goals. The majority of the discussion was centered around Twitter, with Facebook following a close second. Flickr, LinkedIn, Myspace, Wikis, and traditional blogs were discussed as well.

Topics of particular interest were personal branding, risk management, educating students entering the workforce, and the real value of social media to a business.
